This calculator splits your image into equal-width panels, e.g. a 60-inch-wide image split into 3 panels gives each panel a width of 20 inches, with a 2-inch gap between panels making the full mounted width 64 inches.

Enter the total width and height of the image content you want to split across panels, how many panels to split it into, and the gap you want between them once mounted. This calculates each panel's exact size, plus the full width your panel set will occupy on the wall once the gaps are included.

  • Formula: Panel Width = Total Width ÷ Number of Panels — the total width here is the combined width of the image content itself, not including gaps.
  • Gaps are added, not subtracted: a small gap between panels (commonly 1–3 inches) doesn't shrink each panel's width — it's added on top to give the full width the mounted set will occupy on your wall.
  • Height is unaffected: all panels share the same height as the total height you specify (gaps are only horizontal in a side-by-side split).

How much gap should I leave between canvas panels?

1–2 inches (2.5–5 cm) is the most common spacing for multi-panel canvas sets, giving each panel visual separation without breaking up the image too much.

Can I split a canvas vertically instead of side by side?

Yes — just swap which dimension you treat as "total width" for a vertical stack, since the math for splitting a single dimension into equal segments with gaps is the same either way.
