This calculator applies add, subtract, multiply, or divide to a duration, e.g. 1:30:00 × 3 = 4:30:00.

Enter a duration (h:m:s) and a value, then choose the operation. Add/subtract treat the value as decimal hours; multiply/divide treat it as a plain scaling factor.

Multiplying a duration by a scaling factor is exactly what's needed to project a per-unit time out to a batch — 1 hour 30 minutes (1.5 decimal hours) multiplied by 3 gives 4 hours 30 minutes, useful for estimating the total time for three identical tasks from the time one of them takes. Dividing works the same way in reverse, splitting a known total duration evenly across a number of units — for example, figuring out how long each of several equal legs of a relay or shift rotation should take from the overall time budget.

  • Multiply example: 1:30:00 (1.5h) × 3 = 4:30:00 — useful for scaling a per-unit time to a batch (e.g. 3 identical tasks).
  • Divide example: 4:30:00 ÷ 3 = 1:30:00 — useful for splitting a total duration evenly.
  • Add/Subtract: the value is treated as decimal hours added to or subtracted from the duration (e.g. 1:30:00 + 0.5 = 2:00:00).

How do I halve a duration?

Choose Divide and enter 2 as the value, e.g. 3:00:00 ÷ 2 = 1:30:00.

What happens if I divide by 0?

The result is shown as 0:00:00 to avoid an undefined calculation.
