This calculator checks the last digit of your number to determine whether it is odd or even.

Whether a number is odd or even comes down to a single question — does it divide evenly by 2 — but for very large numbers or numbers buried in a longer calculation, it's easy to lose track. Enter any whole number here, positive or negative, and this calculator tells you instantly whether it's odd or even, along with the simple last-digit rule you can use to check by eye next time.

  • A number is even if it is exactly divisible by 2, leaving no remainder — its last digit is always 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8.
  • A number is odd if dividing by 2 leaves a remainder of 1 — its last digit is always 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9.
  • This works for negative numbers too: −4 is even and −7 is odd, just like their positive counterparts.

How do I know if a number is odd or even?

Look at the last digit: if it's 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8, the number is even; if it's 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9, the number is odd.

Is 7 odd or even?

7 is odd, since 7 ÷ 2 leaves a remainder of 1.
