Work Shift Coverage Calculator
Work Shift Coverage Calculator
Enter a required coverage window (e.g. 8:00-20:00) and up to three shifts (using 24-hour times), and this tool tells you the total covered hours, any gap hours left uncovered, and whether coverage is complete.
Overlapping or adjacent shifts are merged automatically so hours are never double-counted, and any part of the required window that no shift covers is reported as a gap — useful for scheduling retail, hospitality, or support-desk coverage where a shift-planning mistake means an unstaffed period. If you only need one or two shifts, set an unused shift's start and end time to the same value (e.g. 0 and 0) and it will be ignored in the total.
- Overlapping shifts: overlapping or adjacent shifts are merged automatically so hours aren't double-counted.
- Unused shifts: set a shift's start and end to the same value (e.g. 0 and 0) if you only need one or two shifts.
- 24-hour format: enter times as decimal hours (e.g. 13.5 for 1:30 PM), using the 0-24 scale.
What if two shifts overlap?
Overlapping time is only counted once — the calculator merges overlapping intervals before summing covered hours.
How do I check a single 8-hour shift?
Enter it as Shift 1, and leave Shift 2 and Shift 3 both set to 0 and 0.
